Corbett National Park
" The tiger is a large-hearted gentleman with
boundless courage & when he is exterminated - as exterminated he
will be unless public opinion rallies to his support - India will be
poorer by having lost the finest of her fauna. " - Jim Corbett

Corbett - the land of trumpet, roar and song
The Corbett Tiger Reserve is visually stunning. Aptly called
the
'land of trumpet, roar and song', this forest of flowing rivers, blue waters
and sa/-dappled glades is tiger and elephant country, where unexpected sights
and sounds present themselves at almost every turn. India's first National Park,
it is ranked as one of the best-managed parks in the subcontinent. The reserve
now falls in the newly constituted state of Uttaranchal. Established in 1936,
it is one of the last surviving stretches of untouched sub-Himalayan wildernesses.
The reserve is home to a number of species. With water and food available in
abundance, this is an ideal habitat for all of nature's wards. Barking deer,
chital and sambar hoof marks crisscross with pugmarks of tigers. Doves, coppersmiths,
mynas, flycatchers and thrushes work laboriously at their respective songs,
calls and displays, announcing territorial rights to 'whom it may concern'.
Whitebreasted Kingfishers screech dominance for hundreds of metres in all directions.
Langurs and chital complete the philharmonic performance. According to a study
by the Zoological Survey of India, Corbett has over 585 species of resident
and migratory birds.
